Choose what to preserve

Lossless optimisation rewrites PDF objects more efficiently while keeping page content, selectable text and links. Balanced and Strong render pages as compressed images, which can shrink large scans and photo-heavy PDFs. These image modes remove selectable text, links, bookmarks and interactive forms, and can soften fine detail.

Savings depend on the input

A PDF that is already efficiently compressed may not get smaller. The tool compares the result against the input and returns the unchanged original if compression would increase its size. Your result shows the total input and output sizes, with a saving percentage when space was saved. Always keep the source file for later editing.

Which compression should I choose?

Use Lossless first for text documents or forms. Balanced and Strong make image-based copies for viewing, with Strong using lower resolution and JPEG quality.

Will text remain selectable?

Yes with Lossless. Balanced and Strong flatten text into page images, so search, selection, links and interactive form fields are lost in compressed results.

Why did my file barely shrink?

It may already be optimised. If the result is not smaller, the download keeps the original and the result explains that no reduction was made.

Can I compress several PDFs?

Yes, up to 20 files using the selected setting. Your files are processed on your device and the originals are never overwritten.
