How it works

How to convert Files to ZIP

  1. Add your Files files

Drag them onto the panel above, or press Choose Files. Any file type is accepted.

  2. Press Convert to ZIP

Your browser does the work. A progress bar tracks it, and nothing is uploaded at any point.

  3. Download your ZIP files

The result appears with its new size. Take the files one at a time or the whole set as a ZIP.

About this converter

One download instead of twenty

Email attachment limits, upload forms with a single slot and shared folders all get easier with one archive. Files are compressed where compression helps and stored as they are where it would only waste time, which is why a folder of JPGs zips almost instantly and a folder of text files shrinks sharply.

Built on your device

The archive is assembled in your browser using the compression built into it, so no file is transmitted. Filenames are written in UTF-8 so accents and non Latin characters survive, and duplicate names are given a numeric suffix rather than quietly overwriting each other.

Files to ZIP: common questions

Can I add a password?

Not here. Encrypted ZIP support varies wildly between unpacking tools, and a ZIP password is weak protection. For anything sensitive, send the file through a service with real end to end encryption.

Is there a size limit?

Your device memory is the limit, since the archive is built locally. Around 1 GB total is comfortable on a laptop, less on a phone.

Will the ZIP open on Windows and Mac?

Yes. The archives use standard deflate compression, which File Explorer, Finder and every unzip utility handle without extra software.

Does it preserve folders?

Files are added at the top level of the archive. Folder structure is not read, so name files clearly before you add them if the grouping matters.
